Meet Founder Melissa Mars

International award-winning actress, singer and writer, Melissa Mars received major notice in the United States and around the world after appearing alongside John Travolta in From Paris With Love, produced by Luc Besson (Nikita, Lucy); winning a best supporting actress award for her performance in The Cabining; multiple best actress awards for her “heartfelt, spectacular and vulnerable” performance in the drama Polly, and having her song “Beautiful” picked up by Coca-Cola Music for their “52 Songs of Happiness” worldwide music compilation album.

Born and raised in France, with roots in Algeria, Mars got her first camera at the age of 13 and began writing and filming while pursuing her passion for acting. While she always dreamt of being an actor and making movies, she became a singer-songwriter by accident. Raised by a single mother, the absence of her father inspired her first single: “Papa M’aime Pas” (Daddy doesn’t love me), that catapulted her in the French charts. This success was followed by three solo albums with Polydor-Universal Music, and concert tours that were praised in W magazine, Elle and Madame Figaro among others. Le Monde (French established newspaper) described her as “Tinker Bell transformed by Tim Burton”. Mars featured on many duets, including “1980”, a hit that reached number 5 in the charts. She is also well known for her leading role in the smash hit musical Mozart the Rock Opera, that sold more than 1,500,000 tickets, and was directed by Olivier Dahan who helmed the Oscar-winning film La Vie en Rose. With the cast of Mozart the Rock Opera, Mars jointly received a best ensemble NRJ award and a diamond record with Warner Music.

In addition to her numerous achievements in front of the camera, Mars also received recognition for her work behind the camera. While in Paris she displayed a series of portraits to promote children’s rights which were praised in both Elle Magazine and Metro daily. In 2007, after she directed her first music video, Love Machine, produced by Universal Music, she started Made in Mars to produce her official directorial debut short film, Chaperon Noir (Black Riding Hood) and her music video / musical short Army of Love.

Most recently, Mars has completed two dystopian projects; Perfect Chaos – ep10, part of a movie chain released online in the lockdown context; and award-winning short film The Last Touch, which she originally filmed in 2018, not knowing it would be so prescient. “We are so connected that we are disconnected” is the core idea Mars explores in The Last Touch, which has been compared to Black Mirror and Orwell’s 1984. The short film garnered an enthusiastic response at festivals, and won best sci-fi short film at Hollywood Boulevard Film Festival 2021, and Best Social Distanced production runner-up at Miami International Science fiction Film Festival 2021.

Settled in New York, Mars travels between the US and France, balancing her worlds of music and film. She just co-wrote and completed a pilot based on her latest award-winning short dystopian film, The Last Touch, and is now developing her award-winning screenplay, My Ancestors’ Song.
